Diamond Dog Camp for Summer 2013

The dates for Diamond Dog Baseball Camp for the summer of 2013 will be Tuesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 20. Camp will be $40 per day and campers are welcomed to attend both days. The June 18 session will emphasize hitting and will mainly include hitting drills, stations, and situations throughout the day but will also include proper warm up and throwing skills. The June 20 session will emphasize throwing and fielding mechanics as well as specific defensive positions (pitchers, catchers, infielders, and outfielders). Participants will be able to rotate to different defensive positions to learn more than one. In the afternoon, there will be game situations and hitting stations as well.

Diamond Dog camp will take place on the Gardner-Webb campus at John Henry Moss Stadium/Bill Masters Field.

Cost: $40 for each day
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
(Break for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.)
*Parents can take camper to lunch or leave money for fast food nearby- coaches will accompany
Ages: those who have completed 1st grade up to those who have completed 8th grade
Staff will include Gardner-Webb coaches and local high school and middle school coaches

Hats and T-shirts will be available for purchase at each of the sessions but are not included in the price.

There is no pre-registration form or pre-payment necessary for camp this year. However, you must notify us by email (rstroupe@gardner-webb.edu) or by phone (704-406-4421) in advance in order to participate. Please indicate name and grade completed and the dates you are planning to attend. CAMPERS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO AGE APPROPRIATE GROUPS DURING CAMP. For those who are in middle school, you will mainly be with other players your age. Campers should bring baseball shoes as well as flat turf shoes or tennis shoes, for use in the indoor batting cages. Bring a glove and a hat and wear what you would normally wear for a baseball game. If you bring a bat, please have it clearly marked with your name on it to prevent confusion. Water will be available but campers are welcomed to bring water bottles and gatorade, etc. if they wish.

GWU Hitting Camp for January 19 cancelled



Unfortunately the Hitting Camp scheduled for Saturday, January 19 has been cancelled. Due to a solid week of rain the game field is saturated with water. And with the approach of a winter weather system, we do not feel like the camp would be of high enough quality to conduct using only indoor cages. We won’t be able to reschedule due to official practice beginning next week for our team. We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may have caused.  
For those players 8th grade and below, if you are interested in pursuing some hitting options, Kyle Sprague, one of our assistant coaches, is hosting group hitting lessons and a hitting competition. Below are the dates and prices for those events:

Coach Stroupe has announced the dates for the upcoming holiday camps at Gardner-Webb University. Camp will be held at Moss Stadium/Masters Field on campus.


Diamond Dog Hitting Camp
Saturday, January 19
9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for grades 1-8 (Cost $30)
1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for grades 9 and up (Cost $40)

There is no pre-registration form to fill out for the Hitting Camp.
However, if you are interested in the Hitting Camp, for staffing purposes, it is VERY important that you send an email to Coach Stroupe at rstroupe@gardner-webb.edu to confirm that you will be attending. Please include your name and grade in school. If you are bringing a team of players, please list the names of each of the players who will be attending.  Payment can be made on the day of camp. Checks can be made out to Diamond Dog Baseball.
Indoor facilities will be available for hitting camp in case of inclement weather.

Summer dates for Diamond Dog Baseball Camp Set

The dates for Diamond Dog Baseball Camp for Summer, 2012 have been announced. As in 2011, D-Dog camp will take place on the Gardner-Webb campus at the new facility, John Henry Moss Stadium/Bill Masters Field. Camp will be a series of one-day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. sessions for kids who have completed 1st grade up through those who have completed 8th grade. Each of these sessions will cover basic fundamentals including throwing, hitting, fielding, and baserunning. There will also be time set aside for individual defensive position instruction (including pitching) and games. The dates for camp: June 19 (Tuesday) June 21 (Thursday) June 26 (Tuesday) June 28 (Thursday) *Additional dates may be added in August. Cost for each of the sessions is $40 per participant. GWU Hitting Camp will be held in indoor facilities on January 21


Gardner-Webb head baseball coach Rusty Stroupe has announced that the Hitting Camp scheduled for January 21 will be held as scheduled with the use of indoor facilities being available on campus. Hitting camp will take place on Saturday, January 21 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Staff for the event: Rusty Stroupe- Head Baseball Coach, Gardner-Webb University; Blake Lalli, Chicago Cubs minor leaguer, Southern League All-Star three consecutive seasons in AA, national doubles batting champion in 2005 while at Gardner-Webb: Sean Walsh, current hitting coach at Brevard College, former All ACC tournament performer at NC State, former minor leaguer in Philadelphia Phillies organization. Former GWU star and current assistant coach Aaron Miller, as well as All-American current player Dusty Quattlebaum will also serve as instructors. Participants will be divided into high school, middle school, and elementary age groups. Emphasis for the high school group will be on how the new bats and bat standards will affect a hitter's swing and staff will cover adjustments that hitters need to make to continue to have success with the new bats. Cost for the camp is $35 and can be paid on the day of camp. To pre-register, simply send an email to rstroupe@gardner-webb.edu and confirm your attendance and participation on that day. Participants should report to the stadium by 12:45 p.m.and bring their bats if they have their own bat and turf or tennis shoes for drills that take place in the cage. The schedule for the day will include hitting lectures and numerous drill stations.

Gardner-Webb Christmas Camp Dates Announced



Gardner-Webb head baseball coach Rusty Stroupe has announced the dates for two Christmas camps in December. The December 3rd camp will be a pitcher/catcher camp for high school and middle school age players. The December 4th Skills camp will be for first grade through eighth grade and will cover various baseball fundamental skills. The Saturday, December 3rd pitcher/catcher camp will begin at 1 p.m. at Moss Stadium/Masters Field on campus and will last until 5 p.m. Participants will be given free admission to the home Gardner-Webb basketball game that night at 7 p.m. against Winthrop. Cost for the camp will be $40. Catchers and pitchers who also play a position will be given the opportunity to hit during the camp.
The Sunday, December 4 Skills Camp will last from 2 p.m. until 5:30 that afternoon. Campers will practice proper throwing, hitting, fielding, and running techniques as well as engage in fun-filled competition activities. Cost for the Skills Camp is $30.
To register for either of these camps, please send an email to Coach Stroupe at rstroupe@gardner-webb.edu to indicate that you will be attending. PLEASE DO NOT MAIL PAYMENTS IN ADVANCE. Payment can be made on the day of camp. It is important for staffing and facility purposes to know who will be attending in advance so please email with that information as soon as possible. There is no limit to the number of participants.
In the event of inclement weather, the camps will be held indoors at the GWU batting cages and other facilities on campus. Please report to the baseball stadium at the appropriate time regardless of the weather.

TEAM CAMP

For any youth league coaches who may be interested, Coach Stroupe, along with staff and players, will host full day and half day team camps for travel teams, youth league teams, etc. who want instruction as a team.
