Summer dates for Diamond Dog Baseball Camp Set
The dates for Diamond Dog Baseball Camp for Summer, 2012 have been announced. As in 2011, D-Dog camp will take place on the Gardner-Webb campus at the new facility, John Henry Moss Stadium/Bill Masters Field. Camp will be a series of one-day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. sessions for kids who have completed 1st grade up through those who have completed 8th grade. Each of these sessions will cover basic fundamentals including throwing, hitting, fielding, and baserunning. There will also be time set aside for individual defensive position instruction (including pitching) and games.
The dates for camp:
June 19 (Tuesday)
June 21 (Thursday)
June 26 (Tuesday)
June 28 (Thursday)
*Additional dates may be added in August.
Cost for each of the sessions is $40 per participant. There will be a one hour lunch break at noon for campers to go to local fast food restaurants or for parents to take them elsewhere. Or parents may send a bag lunch with campers if desired.
Hats and T-shirts will be available for purchase at each of the sessions but are not included in the price.
Campers are welcomed to attend as many or as few of these sessions as they wish. Though the format will be the same for each one, the format will allow for learning and development at each session.
A typical day will be as follows:
9 a.m. Flexibility and Proper Running Form Drills
9:30 Hitting Fundamentals and Stations
11:00 Defensive position instruction (includes pitching)
11:30 Defensive instruction at alternate position (also includes pitching)
Noon Break for lunch
1 p.m. Rotations by groups divided by age
Stations:
1. Games on main field
2. Hitting drills in indoor cages
3. Baseball Basic Skills session- positioning, baseball knowledge, agilities
3:45 Wrap Up
There is no pre-registration form or pre-payment necessary for camp this year. However, you must notify us by email (rstroupe@gardner-webb.edu) or by phone (704-406-4421) in advance in order to participate. Please indicate which of the dates you are planning to attend.
CAMPERS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO AGE APPROPRIATE GROUPS DURING CAMP. For those who are in middle school, you will mainly be with other players your age.
Campers should bring baseball shoes as well as flat turf shoes or tennis shoes, for use in the indoor batting cages. Bring a glove and a hat and wear what you would normally wear for a baseball game. If you bring a bat, please have it clearly marked with your name on it to prevent confusion. Water will be available but campers are welcomed to bring water bottles and gatorade, etc. if they wish.
